*** This car is SOLD. *** The 300 d type (internal M-B code W 189) was the most elaborate of the Mercedes 300 saloon series, which was also called "Adenauer"-series, referring to Germany's first post-war chancellor who preferred using 300s as official cars instead of the BMW 501, where his hat had been thrown off when he first tried to enter it. The 300 d not only shows a significantly more elegant design than its predecessors, but also the first intake manifold fuel injection ever used by Mercedes-Benz, which led to an impressive performance of 160 hp. Moreover, the completely lowered side windows together with the easily removable rear quarter windows left no visible pillars and made the car what Mercedes called a "hardtop-limousine". The car presented here is equipped with the rare steering-column gear shift. She had been firstly delivered in 1960 to the vice-admiral of the Mexican marine in Mexico-City and then stayed with several marine-related owners, whose latest was the medical officer in charge. In 1995, the 300 was acquired by a member of the German embassy and brought back to Germany, where during the years to follow a huge amount of money was spent for extensive restoration efforts. Among the many works to mention there is a nearly complete replacement of all doors, hoods and fenders, a completely new interior, and lots of efforts concerning the mechanics. The history of this car as well as the restoration measures are well documented. This M-B flagship shows vivid performance, and the bodywork is sane throughout, however the still visible nice patina tells of a long and interesting life. +++ Foreign customers are welcome.
