The Maybach definitely represent the summit of German automotive engineering, then and now. Out of the not quite 2000 cars which have ever been manufactured from 1921-1941 at Friedrichshafen, Bodensee, only less than 150 have survived, all of them firmly in the hands of collectors. It's only once in a blue moon that one of these rare birds is offered on the market, fact which makes the car presented here even more desirable. This Maybach SW 38 ("SW" stands for "Schwingachs-Wagen" and describes the construction of the rear axle, "38" stands for the engine displacement of 3.8 litres) with VIN 1960, the "short" wheelbase of 338 cm and a very elegant 5-passenger convertible body by Spohn, had been presented at the 1938 Berlin automobile exhibition and sold right away to her first owner, the baron Kurt von Mylke from Berlin. After the end of war she was allocated to the Chinese military commission at Berlin, then driven and worn out. Many years later acquired by an architect from Berlin, the Maybach underwent a meticulous and professional restoration, for all the mecanics and the chassis in Germany, for the bodywork in the U.K. It was on this occasion that the car was re-painted in the colours aubergine and light red in which she had been presented at the exhibition in 1938. The actual owner bought the Maybach from the mentioned architect in the mid 90's and used it at several occasions without any problems. He also had made some technical improvements, like the installation of an original Maybach 4.2-litre engine, whose high pressure pistons should deliver ca. 170 hp (the original and running 3.8 litre engine comes of course with the car), new soft-top, stainless steel made fuel tank, vacuum tanks for the gears, exhaust-system, bumpers, wheel trim caps etc. Besides that, this Maybach SW 38 should be the only one which is equipped with the biggest Bosch-headlights ever, which were also used on the Mercedes 540 K series. The car is in perfect running condition, both tecnically as well as visually. +++ Foreign customers are welcome. Car is located in the Frankfurt/Main airport region. Shipping no problem. +++
